Ogre & Last Days of Old Earth devs are working on an Achtung! Cthulhu tactical strategy game

Auroch Digital is working on a new tactical strategy game set in Modiphius’ Acthung! Cthulhu universe, and have partnered with Ripstone as a publisher.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics – The Forest of Fear is a tactical RPG that uses several thematic gameplay systems, such as combat based around the idea of light vs. dark, as well as a momentum system that rewards multiple successful actions in a row. Players control an army of Allied heroes trapped behind enemy lines trying to uncover and foil a fantasy-fuelled Nazi plot.

The game is currently going through a Kickstarter campaign – which is already 70% over its funding goal – but publisher Ripstone has funded the core of the project anyway.

Acthung! Cthulhu originally started off as a role-playing setting for the Call of Cthulhu and Savage Worlds table-top RPGs, before being launched as an IP in its own right with a successful Kickstarter campaign 5 years ago.

Auroch Digital are a strategy games developer based in Bath, UK. They’ve been a bit hit-and-miss as far as releases go; Their digital adaptation of Steve Jackson’s Ogre was ok, but overall needed some more work. Last Days of Old Earth, a turn-based strategy game they developed with Slitherine, was definitely in need of more work.

Ripstone is a bit of an odd one – their catalogue doesn’t suggest this would be something in their normal wheelhouse but reportedly they’ve helped fund and bring to market several indie games, so their expertise in this area at least is clear.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics – The Forest of Fear is due out later this year on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One (and Nintendo Switch).
