Corruption 2029 launches today on the Epic Games store

Well here's a nice surprise: a mere 10 days after announcing their follow-up to 2018's Mutant Year Zero, Bearded Ladies have released Corruption 2029. It's out now, and available as an Epic Games store exclusive for $19.99/£16.

Corruption 2029 is set in a "not-so distant future" (around nine years, I reckon!), in an America that's been overrun by a totalitarian government. Civil war has broken out, and you're with a rebel group of a few states calling itself the United Peoples of America. It's your job to take the fight to the New American Council from behind enemy lines.

There's a lot of clear crossover from Mutant Year Zero, from the small squad-based tactics to the gorgeous lighting and moody sets. The Bearded Ladies say Corruption 2029 is also heavily inspired by sci-fi films of the late 1980s and early 1990s, so expect a healthy helping of cheesy dialogue.

Here's a lengthy walkthrough video showing off one of Corruption 2029's early missions:

As you can see, the action flips from real-time stealth to turn-based tactics pretty seamlessly, and once you go loud, combat is almost instantly bombastic. The encounters look as though they have puzzle aspects to them, and setting up a perfect ambush looks like it's a lot of fun.

I liked Mutant Year Zero a bit more than Anna did (check out her review here), and I suspect Corruption 2029 will have a lot of the same appeal.

You can pick it up now on the Epic Games store. The Bearded Ladies say it'll most likely be coming to Steam at some point, but it'll be a while before that happens.
