The Paradox-Romero partnership revealed: Empire of Sin Announced

Paradox have been teasing their recent partnership with Romero Games – headed by renowned designers John & Brenda Romero – for a while now, and we’ve longed wondered what it may be. Now we know.

Last night Empire of Sin was announced, which is a ‘character driven’ strategy game set in 1920’s Chicago:

Players build their own ruthless criminal empire as one of 14 distinct bosses vying to run the seedy underworld of organized crime in the city. With randomly generated starting conditions, players will have to adapt to survive and do whatever it takes to outsmart, out-gun and outlast their opponents.

It sounds a lot like Omerta: City of Gangsters, which was designed by the Surviving Mars developers back when they were still with Kalypso as their ‘in-between project’ between Tropico’s 4 &5. It’ll be interesting to see where the basis of this game will come from – it’ll be bespoke, for sure, but we wonder if any of Paradox’s trademark design traits from other games will sneak in somehow.

We don’t know much else at this point, other than it’s not due out till 2020 and will be coming to PC, Switch, Mac and “Xbox and Playstation” consoles.
