The long awaited sequel to award winning WEGO turn-based strategy game Frozen Synapse is due out tomorrow; as far as we’ve been told, you can expect to see it drop sometime in the early evening.

Billing itself as an ‘open world tactics’ game, this futuristic strategy game combines grand-strategy with simultaneous turn-based combat as you try to defend a vast, procedurally generated city from threats. You must develop your forces and expand your reach, but when you meet opposition everything pauses – you set your plan, and then watch it play out. There is also multiplayer that focuses on players pitting their planning skills against each other.

In terms of how this game differs from the first entry, here’s a summary of the changes from the game’s Steam page:

  • Frozen Synapse 2 adds many new units like the Flamethrower, Minigun, Knife and Smoke Grenade.
  • Curved walls and new objects like trees, rocks and cars allow for much more realistic levels on a variety of scales, from a road intersection to an enormous shopping mall.
  • New Focus Diamond mechanic allows you to take out tricky enemies who insist on camping behind cover by predicting their location!
  • Vastly improved AI makes for tense tactical battles and a host of UI improvements mean that the planning process is slicker than ever before.

Marcello’s been hard at work putting the game through its paces, and our review will be ready to go.
