Imperator Rome 1.2 Cicero Update Now Live

Paradox’s latest grand-strategy game has had to do a lot of soul-searching and self-improvement since its rocky launch back in April. The dev team have proved surprisingly mobile in re-developing entire sections of the game to try and address major sources of feedback, and the 1.2 Cicero update that was released today is a perfect example of this.

While the first couple of patches were trying to address urgent short-term problems, the 1.2 update has made more drastic changes that alter how the game fundamentally behaves. As a statement of intent - that the dev team are willing to do whatever it takes to try and ensure Imperator fulfils its destiny - it’s inspiring, although I can’t help but feel a tad uneasy at the same time. I guess I’m feeling a bit sorry for whoever worked on those systems that have now been discarded. Here's a video summarising the major changes:

A long with these major alterations, there are plenty of other subtler changes that build on previous patches as well, which can you see by reading the patch notes. The 1.2 Cicero update marks an important turning point for the game, and another key step on Imperator’s journey.

We’ll be playing through the game this week to really get a feel for what these changes mean for the game overall, so watch this space.
