Strategy Games News Bulletin - May 22nd, 202022 May 2020 0
It's been a pretty solid week for strategy gaming all around. New DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2 and Civilization 6, some legend decided to put Victoria 2 on a Nintendo Switch and I indulged my excitement for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla by talking about Viking-themed strategy games.
Yes, life is good for strategy gamers right now and we have more news and announcements to round-up from the past week.

EA will release the Command & Conquer source code
The remasters of Command & Conquer and Red Alert aren't far off now, and the good news just keeps rolling in. Earlier this week Petroglyph Games announced that they had come to an agreement with Electronic Arts regarding the game’s source code:
Today we are proud to announce that alongside the launch of the Remastered Collection, Electronic Arts will be releasing the TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll and their corresponding source code under the GPL version 3.0 license.
This means that modders will have a nearly unprecedented amount of control over what they want to mod and how. This comes on top of the previously announced Map Editor, and Steam Workshop support. We suggest you read the full announcement on Reddit which has more details as to what this means.
Kerbal Space Program Free Update
The developers of Kerbal Space Program has announced that the 1.10 update they’re making will be done in collaboration with the European Space Agency. It will be titled Shared Horizons, and comes with a couple new missions inspired by real-life ESA projects, as well as new science experiments and outfits. The new update will be dropping on July 1st, 2020.
This comes as it was also announced that the game’s sequel, Kerbal Space Program 2, was being delayed till late 2021 citing complications caused by the current crises.
New Desperados III Trailer
For some reason, the developers of Desperados III are worried people won’t understand what their game is. This is weird, as this is the same team that made the excellent Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - a stealth-tactics game in the same vein as the old Commandos titles set in Feudal Japan.
Desperados III is basically going to be a similar experience, except set in the Wild West. But in case that wasn’t obvious, here’s a trailer to reinforce the point:
Desperados III is due to release on PC and Consoles on June 16th.
Henry Cavill is in Total War: Warhammer 2
You know what? I really enjoyed The Witcher TV series they made, and it gave me a newfound respect for Henry Cavill. I’d seen him in things here and there but he wasn’t really someone I paid much attention to. Now he’s become a new geek icon of sorts, with the latest thing to happen is that he was stealthily inserted into the latest Total War: Warhammer 2 DLC.
You can read our own review of The Warden & The Paunch if you want to know what it was like, but Cavill’s cameo was as a High Elf ‘Loremaster of Hoeth’ hero, named ‘Cavill’. If you choose to play as the new High Elf faction, you start the game with this guy as your other champion. Our sister site PCGamesN has an image from the game:
Rising Lords Early Access
Rising Lords is an upcoming turn-based strategy that cites having “card and board game elements”. There is a single-player campaign as well as a multiplayer platform for up to four players to compete in simultaneous WEGO action. Economic expansion and military might need to be kept in balance as you strive for domination.
The game is due to release into Steam Early Access on May 27th.
New Blood Rage: Digital Edition Screenshots
Last but not least; some digital board game news! One of the upcoming projects Asmodee Digital is working on is porting Blood Rage to PC, which will be launching on May 27th. They’ve just dropped a new batch of screenshots, if you want to take a look:
That's all we've got for you this week - enjoy your weekends!
