Strategy Games News Bulletin, March 27th 2020

By Joe Robinson 27 Mar 2020 0

It’s another lean week in strategy land as the world really starts to gear up for the increasingly strict lock-downs. We’re all bunkered up here at Strategy Gamer HQ, but I’ve had a quick look around to see what interesting news items have been released.

In the meantime, don’t forget to check out some of the things we’ve put out this week, from another deep-dive into Stellaris’ new features, to our review of Iron Danger, which is actually quite good. We also updated our Rimworld Mods guide, now that Patch 1.1 has had time to settle.

Meanwhile, in strategy games...

XCOM 2 is Coming to Switch

The Switch is quietly becoming the best platform for strategy gamers, and I for one welcome our new Mario overlords with welcome arms. Coming May 29th, 2020 the XCOM 2 Collection will feature the base game, the War of the Chosen stand-alone expansion, as well as the Resistance Warriors, Anarchy’s Children, Alien Hunters and Shen’s Last Gift DLC packs. There won’t be any multiplayer included, but you can play in all modes.

Wartile is released on Consoles + DLC in May

We covered Wartile a bit back in 2017 when it was still in early access. Our sister website Wargamer.com reviewed it when it released fully in 2018. This/was a fascinating proof-of-concept for a digital table-top skirmish game and while visually stunning, I also found it to be personally a bit gruelling once the fighting started. We never really kept up with it after that, and I honestly thought it might die a slow death, but it seems there’s still some fight left in it.

We received word earlier this week that the game has now released on Xbox One and PS4. The basic edition costs around $20, although there’s a ‘Complete’ edition available as well. A new piece of premium DLC will be dropping on May 5th as well titled Hel’s Nightmare. It provides a campaign across new battle boards, as well as a new hero.

Total War: Three Kingdoms fixes inbound

If you’ve been experiencing some issues with Total War: Three Kingdoms after the recent release of the A World Betrayed expansion, then don’t fret - Creative Assembly have got this. They did a quick post on twitter this morning stating that they intend to push out a hotfix as early as next week to address major issues with A World Betrayed and the previous expansion, Mandate of Heaven, with a larger patch scheduled next month to try and offer some more long-term changes.

Dwarf Fortress Steam Update

There’s been an actual development update on Dwarf Fortress’ incoming Steam version, which we’d love to see out by the end of 2020 but who actually knows when it will be released. The dev blog is lean, and is focused solely on how the visual improvements are being handled. It’s quite neat to see, to be fair, and you can read the full diary here to get an idea of what’s coming.
