Total War: ARENA to cease operations next February22 Nov 2018 0
It may have not been a Total War game for hardcore fans, but Total War: ARENA was trying to do something a bit different and target new audiences.
The success of games like World of Tanks proves that these online-focused competitive experiences are popular, and there’s no reason to think a Total War themed variant wouldn’t work (especially with Wargaming.net backing them up).
Sadly, it seems ARENA faced one obstacle too many – an official post on the game’s website has announced that, as of February 22nd, 2019, the game will cease live operations.
ARENA has been on a long journey, and we are thankful to everyone who joined us. We have learned so much during the development of ARENA and we have grown incredibly close with the community and involved you deeply into our development process. It has been an absolute privilege to work with you all on this project, but unfortunately the results of ARENA Open Beta Test did not meet all our expectations.
There’s not really many details beyond that – the game simply wasn’t performing as well as the powers-that-be needed it too.
The bulk of the post deals with ways in which current players may be compensated for any money they’ve spent in ARENA over the last few months. Basically, you can get compensated in in-game currency for World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, or World of Warships. All existing players also get one free piece of Total War content, from the Definitive Edition of Medieval II: Total War, to DLC for ATTILA, Rome 2: Total War or Total Warhammer.
There’s an extensive FAQ you can read If you’re a former or current player and want to know what happens next, we recommend you give it a read so you don’t miss out on free stuff.
