Total War: Warhammer 2 is free-to-play this weekend alongside Steam sale

Creative Assembly has announced that this weekend Total War: Warhammer 2 will be available to play for free. The game is the second installment in the award winning strategy series, based upon the lore and tactics of the cult Game's Workshop universe, Warhammer Fantasy.

In the game you play as one of four races - High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven - focusing upon conquest and bending the power of a magical vortex to your will. You'll choose one from a pretty large selection of Legendary Lords, then as is typical for Total War, will fight in RTS battles, while also managing your faction on a turn-based campaign map.

This free-to-play opportunity will also be dropping alongside a Steam sale in which you'll be able to get up to 75% off all Total War: Warhammer content, including the first game, and all associated DLCs for both games.

It's kind of a try and buy situation, so you can see what races you enjoy playing as, then snap them up if they catch your interest.

Though originally considered a significant departure from Total War's previous games, the Total War: Warhammer series has garnered a lot of praise, and in terms of timeline, many of us are waiting with bated breath for the third and final game in the series to be announced.

Total War: Warhammer 2's sale and free-to-play will run from now until the 19th of April. If you want any tips to get you started, be sure to check out our Total War beginners guide.
