Warcraft 3: Reforged is out… and there could be a problem29 Jan 2020 0
I’ve got some good news, and some bad news. The good news is, Warcraft 3: Reforged is now out in the wild, so you can purchase and relive the glory days of Blizzard RTS’. The bad news… it may not live up to your expectations, depending on what they were.
There is a Reddit thread on /r/Games, and a lot of people seem pretty pissed off. We’ve got someone playing through the game at the moment so it will take some time to confirm all of this but not everyone is as excited by the game’s release as you’d think.

We’ll summarize some of the more top-line complaints, but it mainly comes down to some bugs and then worse-than-expected visuals:
- Many had trouble logging on during the launch roll-out and couldn’t play the game.
- There’s this list of known issues that was posted before the game went live, suggesting the game needed more time for polish.
- This video compares a Blizzcon 2018 in-game cutscene with what actually shipped (allegedly), indicating the team had to back-track on their desired goals.
- This thread on the official Warcraft 3 forums suggests the quality and variety of the unit animations is worse than the original game.
We could go on, but you get the picture. It’s worth pointing out that a lot of this isn’t especially apocalyptic and there does seem to be an element of poor expectations management permeating the wider discussion. It’s a tricky one as Blizzard seemed to give the impression this would be more than a ‘Warcraft 3 HD’, except that appears to be exactly what they’ve delivered and not everyone is on board with that.
Still, if you were on the fence about buying this you may want to hold off a bit longer. There’s definitely an argument to be made for this needing a bit more TLC, and it may be worth waiting for further analysis on what the game was and wasn’t able to achieve in terms of past promises.
Early screenshots coming out still look pretty decent, all things considered but again it comes down to what expectations you had for the game.
We’ll be bringing you our thoughts on Warcraft 3: Reforged sometime next week, if not sooner.
