The Festag Beta Patch is coming to Warhammer 2 just in time for the holidays

Last week we highlighted what the various Total War teams within Creative Assembly are up to, and the Fantasy content team were reported to be working on a new patch for Warhammer II that they hoped to release, at least in Beta, before the holiday break.

Today we’ve got some more details on that update, named Festag.

The upcoming Beta brings a number of improvements, and changes to WARHAMMER II, along with a major skills update for the Lords and Legendary Lords of the Old World that appear in the game's’s Mortal Empires campaign. Each of those Old World characters now get Red Skill Trees that will be comparable to their new world counter-parts:

Certain legacy Red Skills have been moved up to the Lords’ Yellow (character) Skill Tree, or have been compressed down into single or double-tier skills now, giving players more bang-for-buck with their skill point expenditure.

You can read more about the proposed changes as well as specific details in the full blog post.

If you’re looking to get involved in the beta patch, CA recommend you start a new campaign after you opt, simply due to the amount of skills that have been changed.

The currently existing ‘public_beta’ branch will be renamed to avoid confusion with the new beta they will be running for Festag. There will actually be two betas to choose from:

norsca_beta – This is for those who wish to remain on the most recent update prior to the Festag update, in order to continue with existing multiplayer save games (which will not be compatible with the Festag Update) or campaigns with existing Legendary Lord skills choices you wish to preserve. This beta was previously known as “public_beta”.

coast_beta – This provides the Festag Update, comprising all the new content, fixes, changes and balance updates detailed below.

And here are the instructions for opting in:

  • In your Steam games library, right-click Total War: WARHAMMER II and select Properties.
  • In the Properties window, select the BETAS tab.
  • Select coast_beta from the list.
  • Total War: WARHAMMER II will automatically update to the Festag Beta Update.

Let us know if you end up trying out the beta over the holiday period. We imagine the final patch, along with any tweaks, will land around mid-January, after the team have had a chance to play catch-up after the Christmas break.
