Daily Almanac

Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:31 am

Like that guy who tried to cure syphilis and found drugs only made it stronger, attempts to kill off the Daily Almanac by 'moving forums' and 'electromagnetic pulses induced by nuclear weapons detonated at high altitude' will not succeed.

In an effort to provide continuity, I will begin with the last thing I posted on the old PT forums (known as 'Earth' going forward, e.g. "Do you remember what life was like back on Earth?").

Excellent. Was waiting with bated breath for you to start this up again over here. It's a shame there isn't a way to bring the whole thread over somehow. Maybe a separate thread with a "Best of" or "Greatest Hits" links copied?

I'm going to comb through it shortly. Feel free to copy anything over if you feel I missed it.

Okay, this list has been taken from the Daily Almanac thread on Earth: http://pockettactics.vanillaforums.com/ ... almanac/p1

It contains only the finest links, thoughtfully contributed and commented on by the cream of the forum, including but not limited to, me, devensega, doublebullout, athros13, jon_a_ross, Dreamshadow, SpiceTheCat, riotgirl, Bullwinkle, MrSaracen, Nachtfischer, TheDukester, DavyRam, ChrisNahr, Scameron, CarlRJ, gosenbach, Private_Prinny, Buggy, Owen, blackfire1929, tannderdactyl, the9quad, bekudno, and if I missed you out, it's because you didn't comment or contribute enough, or you were too big of a cunt and got yourself purged.

Needless to say this list is NOT SAFE FOR WORK in any way shape or form. I've checked most of the links and they seem to work fine. The subject matter varies widely and covers war, death, sex, and offensive comedy, so don't fucking whinge if you get offended.

I was overdue for some new (and easier to hit, frankly) irons, and I ran across this marketing video from Cobra.

Hey, I can't find any mechanism to "contact" you on this forum system, re: Pax Pamir. There is, of course, a place that says it is for contact purposes, but it also, of course, doesn't appear to work/do anything.

We should start up the "What Are You Reading" thread again, too. I mentioned in the old place that I was reading Graeber's Utopia of Rules. There is an excellent bit near the end about fantasy worlds and games, and it's all very reminiscent of Carse's Finite and Inifinite Games, if you're familiar with that one.

I've been thinking the same thing. Be really interested to see what people are churning through.

Also, not sure if the Tourney thread would be a good place to put it, but a gaming ID thread for newcomers and old souls to list their game/platform-specific gamer tags/IDs etc.

Anyway, my addition to the almanac: Martin Walsh's Battle of Long Tan documentary...

https://youtu.be/8gUSq7pxux4

He got in contact with me after I shared it on Twitter a week or so ago and said a film version is being looked at, with the name DANGER CLOSE as its current title. Keen. Fifty years since it all went south in the rubber plantation.

Smashing. I've just started 13th Valley so it looks like I will have some more Vietnam reading and gaming to do. Another play of Fire in the Lake is on the cards...

Oh My Goodness. This is amazing! The closest I got to this stuff as a kid was finding Bert Fegg and Eric Idle's Dirty Weekend Book on my old man's bookshelf.

This Scarfolk stuff is magic. You're a keeper, OBollocks. Five-star dredge.
