Fortnite did not stem from Arma, it was the result of an internal competition at Epic Games. You probably mean Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, or PUBG for short. That one was an Arma mod (as was DayZ).

You're correct, but after PUBG Fortnite appeared and become the dominant Battle Royale game, so it more defines the new genre than PUBG does. Sorry, was a bit of a round-around connection!

My favorite post-1945-year-wargame is WinSPMBT.

I have winspWW2 and in my opinion it is hands down the best turn based game ever made regardless of setting. The ruleset just combines into such a deep game.

How do things translate to more modern warfare?

Ah, apologies. It's been fixed now. It's actually from Wargame: Red Dragon. The previous image I was using was from CMSF2.
