Agreed on Blue Ruin. I caught Cold in July around the same time, and they both struck me as excellent revenge-centric works.

I admire the ambition and structure of Primer, but given the option between the two, I'll watch Time Crimes every time.

Kill Your Friends. Steven Stelfox doesn't have a fucking clue about music, which is no handicap, because he's an A&R man for a record company. A steady diet of drugs keeps him going as he attempts to keep his job, sign the right acts, tell the wrong ones where to go, and perhaps bump off a colleague or two. Perfectly judged mid-90s tunes on the soundtrack, vile humour, and a cut-throat attitude. An adaptation of a book by John Niven, it has a similar feel to the film Filth, adapted from the Irvine Welsh novel. Dark, messy, amoral.

An appreciation of Sammo Hung.

The Bedford Incident. A Cold War job, with an American destroyer captain hunting a Soviet sub, and unable to wind down from the peak he has driven himself and his men to. Watching Widmark chew the scenery is well worth it, but Sidney Poitier is a lovely surprise as a youthful journalist getting under everyone's feet and on the captain's last nerve. Not particularly fantastic cinematographically, barring a couple of scenes, but tightly written and well paced. I was expecting the ex-U-boat captain to be a barely-disguised rabid Nazi, but I enjoyed Eric Portman's quiet, thoughtful performance.
